Tony the fridge to complete the Great North run with a FAB10 on his back… eight times!

Nearing shying away from the next seemly impossible challenge, Tony ‘the Fridge’ Phoenix-Morrison is once again embarking on an endurance run of epic proportion to raise both money and awareness for cancer research. Running for Cancer Research UK, Tony is yet again pushing himself to the absolute limit in order to accomplish a great achievement and add to the already huge amount of money that he has raised for the cause.

Starting on September 6th at 6.00am Tony the fridge will be attempting to run eight Great North runs in 24 hours. Totalling at just over 100 miles, the run will finish with the official Great north run 2014, on the morning of September 7th. Of course, throughout the challenge Tony will be running with his famous bright orange FAB10 fridge. Weighing a solid 42kg, most people would have problems getting it down the street, never mind 8 half marathons!

If Tony manages to complete the challenge it will be added to his already impressive list of endurance runs. Last year Tony managed to complete a run from John O’Groats to Lands’ end with a fridge in 40 days. Totalling at over 1000 miles, he completed the majority of the run with a fractured leg as well, showing just how much dedication he has to the cause. Similarly, in 2012 Tony ran a Great North Run every day for 30 days, completing the finial one with all 56,000 runners.

When asked how he felt about the upcoming challenge, Tony commented; “No matter how tough it is or how painful it gets I am going to make it. This is my final attempt at breaking the 100 mile distance, I have failed twice before, but I am learning each time I try. I have no idea how far I will get but I do believe there is the slimmest of chances that I can make it. Beating Cancer is what it’s all really about, my taking on the impossible and getting through the dark hours will hopefully inspire people to donate or help them with whatever challenges they are facing right now."

Everyone here at Smeg is wishing Tony best of luck and routing for him to complete the challenge.
