In the immediate post-war period, in an economic context of development and growing urbanization, the company began to study products that met the demands of the changed rhythms of city life and the new structure of households - in which the figure of the working woman emerges more frequently.

In 1956 Smeg presents its first kitchen, Elisabeth, characterised by stylistic features that refer to the style of robust American kitchens.
