A Guide to Oven Temperature Conversions

Use our easy-to-follow conversion chart to calculate Celsius, Fahrenheit, gas mark and more.

Oven Temperature Conversions

Recipes often come with temperature instructions in either Fahrenheit or Celsius, depending on where they were written or the author's preference. Most ovens in the UK, such as built-in electric ovens, measure temperature in degrees Celsius, but you may want to know how this equates to Fahrenheit, gas mark or fan-assisted. Knowing how to convert between temperature scales can ensure that your dishes turn out just right, no matter the units provided in the recipe. This guide provides a comprehensive oven temperature conversion chart to make your cooking and baking experiences smoother and more precise.

Converting Fahrenheit to Celsius

Most countries use degrees Celsius for measuring temperatures, but a few countries (such as the USA) use Fahrenheit. Recipes using this measurement will require the conversion of Fahrenheit to Celsius. To do so, you will need to subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature, multiply by 5, and then divide by 9.

Converting Celsius to Fahrenheit

If you’re looking to convert temperatures the other way around, the process is reversed. To convert degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit, you will need to multiply degrees Celsius by 9, divide by 5, then add 32.
