FAQs

What is considered a small kitchen appliance?

"small kitchen appliances" is a subcategory of "small domestic appliances" (SDAs). Generally, a small kitchen appliance is an electrical appliance which can (in theory) be easily moved and stored out of sight when not in use.

At Smeg, the following appliances fall within our small kitchen appliance range:

An iron would be an example of a product which is classified as an SDA, but not a small kitchen appliance.

How to store your small kitchen appliances

The great thing about small kitchen appliances is that they can be packed away easily when not in use. From stand mixers to toasters, when you're not using them, you can easily put them away in a cupboard or out of sight.

However, with the stylish Smeg kitchen appliances range, you may prefer to display them where all your family and friends can see them!

Where do I dispose of small kitchen appliances?

Small kitchen appliances won’t last forever, and at some point, you may need to dispose of them. Or perhaps you're upgrading your current set, like your toaster and kettle, to a stylish Smeg set.

When the time comes to dispose of your old appliances, remember that they can’t simply be thrown in the bin. It’s important to ensure they're disposed of responsibly:

1. Recycle: Check with your local council to see if they offer recycling and collection services for small electrical appliances. They may have specific instructions on how and where to drop them off.

2. Donate: If you're upgrading to a new appliance, it's always worth checking with the local charities if they accept donations of small electrical appliances.

3. Take it to a local recycling centre: All household waste and recycling centres have drop-off points for electrical appliances. Some centres even have areas where they can be refurbished and reused, giving your old kitchen appliances a new lease of life for someone else.
