Chocolate Orange Tart

Ingredients

  • Shortcrust pastry – pre-baked
  • 120g butter, cubed
  • 2 eggs
  • 80g golden caster sugar
  • 80g light brown sugar
  • 80g plain flour
  • 120g chocolate, chopped
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees using the Circulaire function.
2. Melt the butter and chocolate in a Smeg saucepan over a low heat (level 3). When melted, remove from the heat and leave to cool.
3. Whisk together the eggs and sugar briefly in a bowl, using the Smeg Hand Mixer with the wire whisk attachment, until combined.
4. Stir in the melted chocolate and butter.
5. Sieve over the flour and fold until just combined.
6. Stir in the orange juice and zest.
7. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

• Enhance the orange flavour – add extra orange zest to form a more intense citrus flavour.
• Add mixed citrus flavours – why not add lemon or lime to the orange to create a more complex citrus profile.
• Add an orange marmalade layer – even add candied orange peel at the base of the tart before pouring the chocolate filling.
• Experient with the chocolate – use a mix of different types of chocolate and create layers or swirls in the tart.
