Apple Crumble Recipe

Ingredients

For the apple base:

  • 4 apples (cooking apples – either Bramley or Granny Smith) peeled, cored and sliced.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

For the crumble topping:

  • 100g plain flour
  • 75g cold, unsalted butter, cubed
  • 50g demerara sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Method

1. Begin by preparing the apple filling. Place your sliced apple pieces into a microwave safe dish. Add the lemon juice, brown sugar and cinnamon- ensure to coat evenly.

2. Put into the Speedwave XL and microwave using a high wattage for 3 minutes until the apple begins to soften.

3. Next, let's make the crumble topping. In the Smeg Stand Mixer bowl, add the flour, cubed butter and a pinch of salt. 

4. Use the beater attachment on a low speed (level 2-3) to mix until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Then add the demerara sugar and mix briefly again to combine. 

5. Now to assemble the crumble. Spoon the crumble mixture evenly over the microwaved apple filling - don't press it down leave it loose and crumbly.

6. Bake the crumble using the Speedwave combination technology. Use microwave and circulaire combination using 180W and 180 degrees. Cook for 15 minutes until the top is golden and crispy!
