Treacle Tart

Savour the classic British delight of treacle tart with this easy-to-follow recipe! With a perfect blend of flavours and textures, our sweet, sticky and utterly delicious treacle tart will have everyone returning for seconds!

Ingredients

  • Shortcrust pastry – pre baked
  • 400g golden syrup
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven by setting the temperature to 180 degrees using the Circulaire function.
  2. Combine all the ingredients together using the Smeg Hand Mixer, mixing well until incorporated.
  3. Pour into the pastry case and push evenly to the edges.
  4. Place into the oven on the wire rack and bake for 20 minutes.

Choose from the selection of ingredients below to make this dish more exciting – some examples are below:

  • Add fruit – incorporate some citrus zest into the tart filling to add some brightness or add fresh fruit to the top after baking to give it a fresh and tangy bite. Even, add dried fruit, mix in some finely chopped dried apricots or figs for added sweetness.
  • Play around with alternative sweeteners – replace part of the golden syrup with maple syrup or honey for a different depth of flavour.
  • Spice it up! Add spices to the tart filling to make the tart feel more seasonal.
  • Serve with ice cream, cream or even a caramel drizzle.
