Smeg brings one of it's biggest exhibition stands to the NEC in Birmingham

Grand Ambitions at Grand Designs Birmingham 2015

The start of October saw us preparing for our final show of 2015; Grand Designs Birmingham. We don’t like to do things by half here at Smeg so we brought together one of the biggest stands of the year.

The 200 square metre stand was home to over 180 products for the four days, all of which needed transporting from our warehouse in Portsmouth, fitting into the stand and polishing before doors opened to the press and public. Our logistics team and build team were excellent, getting all the products to Birmingham and it was left to Marketing and Sales to finish the job and see the show through to Sunday. A massive team effort which came together in a wonderful stand which everyone was very proud of.

It’s estimated that 64,000 visitors came to the show over the four days and at points it felt like they were all on our stand! We had four special items that really attracted visitors to the stand. These were two new limited edition FAB28 fridges, the new TR62 Victoria Cooker and a concept range called Dolce Stil Novo.

The Blackboard FAB28

The FAB28 fridge has seen various limited editions over the years however few have been met with as much excitement as the new blackboard fridge, released for the first time at Grand Designs.

Considering today’s busy lifestyles and the tradition of leaving notes on the fridge door, Smeg has streamlined the process with its latest customisable creation. A real blackboard surface is used on the exterior of the fridge so family and friends can unleash some artistic license with chalk that’s easy to wipe clean when finished.

The Mondrian FAB28

Alongside the blackboard fridge, we also launched the new Mondrian fab 28 fridge. It is a bold and striking appliance, heavily inspired by the work of artist Piet Mondrian featuring his signature abstract design. The fridge is designed in the style of one of the painter’s most popular pieces, ‘Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Gray and Blue’, dating back to the 1920's.

In keeping with this season’s colour blocking trend, the Mondrian fridge joins an iconic 50's style collection of appliances from the premium Italian brand. It caused quite a fuss at Grand Designs and we be proudly displaying it in 2016 at more events.

TR62 Victoria Range Cooker

Smeg’s award winning Victoria range cooker is iconic in its retro design and style. Up until now, it has been reserved for people who have ample space for at least a 90cm version however those days are soon to be over.

Released at the end of 2015, the Victoria range now has a new baby sister; the TR62. At just 60cm wide, this freestanding range cooker is perfect for those who want the range aesthetic in a compact form.

Initially the new TR62 will be release in cream and black with a gas only hob, however there are plans for an induction version in 2016.

The Dolce Stil Novo Range
The new Dolce Stil Novo range is still in concept phase but plans are afoot to add it to the Smeg collection in 2016. The design of the range is sleek and innovative with touchscreen controls and push out handles. The hobs are the stand out item, with aesthetics inspired by nature. Other appliances in the range include a built-in steam oven, wine cooler, warming drawer and compact ovens.

The range symbolises the ultimate blend of technology and high-end design, utilising beautiful materials such as stainless steel and black glass in an effortless way. Grand Designs was one of the few times this range has been displayed and it certainly got the attention it deserves!
