Smeg goes for gold with Commonwealth Games hopeful Olivia Mathias!

At Smeg, we have a long history of supporting local community groups and organisations. Currently we are supporting young triathlete Olivia Mathias, who we're delighted to hear has now been selected to join Team Wales at this year’s Commonwealth Games. Having ran, swam and cycled her way to a place on the GB World Class squad, Olivia will be jetting out to Australia to compete in this year’s games come April.

Thanks to Smeg’s sponsorship, Loughborough University student Olivia has managed to co-ordinate her training – currently between 12-15 hours a week – alongside her studies, enabling her and her family to continue on her ambitious journey.

In the past, Olivia has brought home the gold medal at the 2014 European Triathalon Youth Relays in Penza, Russia, represented Team GB at the Olympic Youth qualifier in Veert, Holland, and has been awarded a series of impressive international honours, too. The next major landmark for Olivia will be the U23 World Championships and then qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Speaking of Smeg’s involvement, Olivia commented: “Smeg UK has really helped me throughout my career by sponsoring me so I can travel and buy new kit and equipment. I’m really looking forward to competing at this year’s Games – I have a lot still to show but am very determined!”

Mike Giddings, Smeg UK’s MD, added: “Here at Smeg, a sense of community is incredibly important to all of us. We’re proud to have supported Olivia on her journey so far and can’t wait to see how much more she has to give. We’re all behind her as this year’s Games approach”.
