SMEG SUPPORTS YOUNG OLYMPIC HOPEFUL OLIVIA MATHIAS

In her bid for triathlon gold, Smeg sponsor GB Youth Talent Squad member Olivia Mathias

05/08/2015

Over the past few years, 16 year old Olivia Mathias has been making waves in the world of triathlons. Having ran, swam and cycled her way to the top, she has managed to secure herself a place on the GB Youth Talent squad for the past three consecutive years. Training non-stop to ensure that she can perform the best she possibly can, Olivia has put in an unbelievable amount of time, energy and dedication to her Sport. So when she wrote to Smeg asking if we would like to sponsor her for her upcoming events, we simply couldn’t say ‘no’.

2014 was a phenomenal year for Olivia and the rest of the GB triathlon team as they managed to bring home the gold medal at the 2014 European Triathlon Youth Relays in Penza, Russia. On top of this, the team represented Britain at the Olympic Youth qualifier in Veert, Holland. Both of these are fantastic achievements and go to show what dedication to a sport can achieve. Currently training between 12- 15 hours every week for Triathlon alongside studying for her GCSE’s, it is no surprise that she has earned a place on the youth talent squad.

However, Olivia is certainly not resting on her laurels, 2015 has been even busier than 2014. So far this year Olivia has been to Portugal to race in her first ETU Triathlon race and came in 12th position out of 65 competitors. Closer to home, Olivia took part in the Youth Triathlon at Blenheim Palace on 14th June and finished in an amazing 2nd place and the went on to qualify for the Youth European triathlon in which the team finished in 2nd place and won a European silver medal. Olivia provided Team GB with a lead of 18 seconds, Olivia’s overall time was the fastest time recorded that day too. Following earlier success Olivia was picked for the Junior European Relay Team Championships in Geneva which took place on the 12th July, the team finished 7th overall.

In the coming months Olivia will be spending 10 days at a Hungarian training camp and hopes to compete in the European Festival of Triathlon races, we wish Olivia the best of luck! . Smeg are particularly looking forward to these events as Olivia will be sporting her Smeg kit! We think it’s safe to say that it is currently an extremely exciting time for Olivia, with so many events races coming up. Smeg will be watching Olivia’s progress throughout the year with great anticipation, and are wishing her the best of luck with all the triathlons.  We are sure she’ll go on to be a huge success in the junior’s category (as well as the senior in a few years’ time!)
